Our colleges are open between 9.30 am - 12.30 pm for you to drop in and find out more about what our colleges have to offer. All of our colleges are unique, feel free to explore as many as you can during this time but we would recommend choosing a maximum of three to visit, as you won't be able to fit in all 16! Take some time beforehand to research the features of each college and which ones you might like to prioritise.

College membership

All students at Durham University are members of one of our colleges. Colleges are residential communities that offer student-led opportunities and events in drama, music, sport and volunteering, as well as a wide range of other activities and facilities. Colleges also offer professional support for student wellbeing and self-development.







Expressing your college preferences

You will be invited to rank your college preferences before the college allocation process runs. We would encourage you to find out more about our unique collegiate system and each of our 16 undergraduate colleges to help you to narrow down which ones you would like to visit during the Post-offer Visit Day.

Collingwood

We're a large, informal college with more energy than ceremony. Our students are ambitious, take risks and make great things happen.

Hatfield

We are a vibrant and welcoming community to which every student, alongside other college members, belongs, reflecting our ethos. 

John Snow

We are a modern college with traditional values, and a supportive and pro-active community that strives to get the best from everyone. 

Josephine Butler

We pride ourselves on inspiration, opportunity and excellent support. We are a vibrant, inclusive community from a variety of backgrounds. 

South 

As Durham's 17th college, we are fortunate to have inherited the best of Durham's collegiate traditions and to have the opportunity to create new. 

St Aidan's

From creative arts to community projects, peer mentoring and Pathways to Enterprise, our energy, enthusiasm and warmth encourage all to flourish. 


St Chad's

We're a small, human-sized community with an excellent reputation as a college where students will be both challenged and supported. 

St Cuthbert's

Founded in 1888 by the students as an alternative to the existing two colleges, we're one of the largest and oldest student communities in Durham. 

St Hild & St Bede

High above the river, we're a place of intellectual and creative stimulation, a place to play and participate, to take action and be an activist. 

St John's

We are one of the smallest colleges, and are a supportive community that will positively challenge, develop and grow your individual strengths. 

St Mary's 

We are a supportive, livelong community offering an enrichment student experience. At Mary's we believe there is something for everyone. 

Stephenson

Stephenson is a modern, progressive, inclusive College, committed to sustainability, innovation and civic engagement. 

Trevelyan

Trevelyan is a small, progressive college renowned for its friendliness - and its distinctive hexagonal architecture. 

University

Durham Castle is home to University College, the oldest and founding college of Durham University, and part of a World Heritage Site. 


Van Mildert

Centred around a lake in spacious, leafy grounds, Van Mildert College offers a beautiful setting in which to live and study.
