Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to book?
Booking is not compulsory for this event and you are welcome to turn up on the day without a booking. However, we would recommend booking your place in advance in order to receive specific event communications and reminders and to allow us to collate your documentation in advance.
What is the date and time of the event?
The event will take place on the 11 November 2026. The talks will be held from 1pm-2.30pm and the provisional offer- making drop-in will be from 2pm-4pm.
Where is the event located?
The event will be located in the Teaching and Learning Centre. You can view our What's On? page for specific room locations but we will also have a Welcome Desk and staff members located in the building wearing blue event T-shirts to help point you in the right direction. If you are stuck, please ask!
Is the venue accessible for people with disabilities?
Yes, the venue is fully accessible. If you have specific needs, please contact us in advance at pg.recruitment@durham.ac.uk.
Do I need to attend all of the event or can I pick and choose my sessions?
You only need to attend as much or as little of the event as you would like. Nothing on the schedule is compulsory, i.e. you could attend one (or more) of the talks and then the drop-in OR you could just attend the talks OR you could just attend the drop-in. The choice is yours!
Is the event for students exploring PGT or PGR courses?
The provisional offer-making part of the event is for undergraduate students in their final year looking for a provisional offer for one of our PGT programmes, however, any students interested in either PGT or PGR programmes are more than welcome to attend the talks which will be held in the Teaching and Learning Centre.
What is a provisional offer?
A provisional offer for a postgraduate degree is an offer of admission that is contingent upon submitting a full application and meeting certain conditions.
What happens once the provisional offer is made?
Your provisional offer will be emailed to you and will detail your next steps, your first of which will be to complete and submit a full application via the applicant portal. The Admissions Team will then do the normal application checks, and as long as these are ok, will then issue a formal offer to you via email and via your applicant portal. This offer may have conditions, i.e. completing your degree with a 2:1.
Do I need to have started an application before attending?
Will I get an offer on the day?
If you are an undergraduate student in your final year and you meet the entry criteria for your chosen postgraduate programme and your chosen programme does not require academic intervention, then you will receive a provisional offer by email on the day.
What if I change my mind and decide not to apply?
That's absolutely fine. Continuing your studies at postgraduate level is a big decision and if you change your mind at any stage of the process that is ok. You can simply choose not to begin the application or, if you have already submitted, then you can withdraw your application at a later date.
Why can I not gain a provisional offer for a PGCE programme?
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a provisional offer for our Teacher Training programmes as the consideration for an offer requires academic intervention. However, you can join us for the Progress to PGCE session to take a deep dive into our PGCE courses as well as gain admissions advice and interview tips and techniques.
